Welcome To Summer Camp 2010!
Treat your child age 2-15 to a unique and action-packed summer experience at the New Canaan Nature Center! Our staff of full-time naturalists and experienced summer counselors will create age-appropriate opportunities to explore, investigate & discover the natural world while building friendships through fun, creative activities. Each session will revolve around a different theme that will be brought to life through age appropriate games, experiments, projects and activities!

Sessions begin June 7 for ages 3-5 and June 28 for ages 6-15.

SUMMER NURTURING NATURE

Mommy, Me, and Nature Makes Three! Explore the wonders of summer at the Nature Center with your young child! This program introduces children ages 2 and 3 to the delights of nature at a hands-on level. We will share walks, crafts, visits with live animals, songs and stories, all in an unhurried atmosphere. Meets twice a week for 1 1/2 hours.

SUMMER NATURE CAMP

Our action-packed programs for campers Age 3-9 emphasize fun, hands-on experiences that allow children an opportunity to simply "be a kid" while exploring and learning about the marvels of nature. Each session highlights a camp-wide theme that different groups explore at an age-appropriate level to ensure a challenging and fun experience. Through inquiry-based programs children become immersed in a wonderland of ponds, meadows, marsh and forest throughout our 40-acre sanctuary. Budding scientists uncover the mysteries of the natural world while adventure-seekers learn wilderness skills and feel the exhilaration of the great outdoors!

SUMMER ADVENTURE CAMP

Camp sessions for 10-15 year olds are designed to give campers an opportunity to experience the best of the outdoors: they'll learn the basic skills needed to be naturalists and participate in high-adventure outdoor recreation. Sessions include exciting off-site field visits, paddling and hiking adventures, plus the opportunity to campout overnight on Nature Center grounds or elsewhere.

CAMP DIRECTOR & STAFF

Geoff McCann is our full time Education Program Manager and Summer Camp Director at the New Canaan Nature Center. During the school year he works with the NCNC education team to deliver quality programs for schools, scouts and other visitors. Geoff is an avid outdoorsman and brings extensive knowledge and experience of environmental education to the popular camp program for 3-15 year olds. He has 8 years of camp experience, most recently at Trailside Discovery Camp in Anchorage, Alaska. This summer the Nature Center’s Resident Naturalists will work on a regular weekly basis with each camper group to provide intensive and exciting activities and lessons that will captivate, inspire and dazzle your child!
