Rates & Reservations

Below please find our rates for standard programs and large group presentations. We require the presence of at least one teacher/group leader/adult from your school or group for all program bookings. For afterschool groups, the adult need not be present for the duration of the program, but must be easily reached if need be. There is no additional cost for teachers/group leaders or any chaperones that may attend the program.

*Additional Charges

After Hours: Programs that are booked for times outside of our traditional program hours (Monday – Saturday, 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.) will have an additional $100 fee per staff needed.

Extra Scouts: Additional scouts that make the group size more than 18 but not more than 25 will be charged at a rate of $7.00 per scout. For groups over 25 scouts, large group rates will apply.

Program Travel: Offsite programs at destinations beyond a 10-mile radius of the New Canaan Nature Center will be charged an additional fee in the amount of $15 to account for mileage and staff travel time. The fee schedule is indicated below:

  • 10-25 miles = $15
  • More than 25 miles = Please inquire.

How to Make Your Reservation

In order to hold a reservation, we require a minimum a 15% deposit to secure your program on our calendar. Deposit is due within two weeks of the date you make the reservation booking with our Registrar. The remaining balance must be received at least 10 business days prior to the date of your scheduled program. Failure to remit payment at least 10 business days prior to the date of your first scheduled program may result in removal of program dates from our calendar and/or forfeiture of deposit. If you require other payment arrangements, please speak with our Registrar, Marianne Dec at (203) 966-9577 x20 at the time of booking, so that alternative arrangements can be made.

We accept cash, check or credit card as payment for programs. Call (203) 966-9577 x20 to reserve your program, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you are unable to contact us, please leave a voicemail with your name, number, and best time to contact you so we can get your group scheduled as soon as possible.


When You Are Ready to Book Your Program

Please have all of the following information ready when you call:

  • Name/address/phone/e-mail for person booking the program
  • Contact info for teacher/leader who will be in charge the day of program
  • Name of the program(s) you want
  • Date/Time for program(s) – please have a 1st & 2nd choice
  • Location of program – can be onsite at NCNC or at a school/other location of your choice
  • The grade level and/or age of the group
  • Size of audience (includes number of classes/students, teachers, chaperones, etc.)
  • Expected arrival/departure times - Will you be staying for lunch/snack or extra exploration?
  • Billing contact, address and method of payment

Inclement Weather

If you choose to cancel your visit because of undesirable weather conditions, please call (203) 966-9577 x20 as soon as possible to notify us of your change in plans. If you get voicemail, please leave a best contact phone number so we can follow up. If we have already received a deposit or full payment, we will be happy to work with you to reschedule your program as our calendar allows. Such weather related reschedules will be assessed an administrative fee equal to 25% of original program cost which will be due along with any outstanding balances.

Refunds are issued only if the Nature Center or your school/group's location is closed or has a delayed opening because of inclement weather.

Cancellations and Refund Policy

*Please note that our cancellation and refund policy has been updated as of 11/01/13.
In the event that you need to cancel your program, please notify the New Canaan Nature Center at least 21 business days in advance of your scheduled program. Cancellations made at least 21 days in advance will be subject to loss of deposit; however, all other payments received will be refunded. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made 10 business days or less in advance of your scheduled program.

Payments are transferable if you reschedule a program within 45 days of the original program.
